Director Critical Care

JOB SUMMARY: The Director Critical Care provides overall direction and leadership for assigned clinical areas on a 24 hour basis. The Director Critical Care ensures the effective administrative management of clinical functions related to personnel and policy. These functions relate directly to meeting quality patient care outcomes, providing education and participating in research while maintaining fiscal responsibility. The position is responsible for program operations that span not only clinical areas but also interface with multiple departments within the organization.MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs and coordinates daily activities of supervised employees to meet all standards of patient care within designated clinical areas as established by hospital and external regulatory agencies.
- Collaborates with administrative leadership to develop strategic and operational plans for assigned clinical service line / departments. Communicates and evaluates effects of same.
- Manages personnel activities for direct reports including provision of counseling when necessary while providing leadership in human resource development.
- Develops, communicates and administers care delivery models and facilitates ongoing evaluation of such models.
- Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit, and retain future nurse administrators.
- Facilitates the conduct, dissemination, and utilization of research to ensure a formalized evidenced based policy and procedure compliance.
- Participates in assigned department budgetary development and is responsible for fiscal compliance.
- Maintains interface with department and other appropriate personnel to coordinate clinical activities, ensure appropriate staffing levels, and monitor patient, visitor and staff safety issues.
- Develop and support unit based shared governance to ensure that nursing practice is governed by professional nurses.
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing program with a degree / diploma in Nursing. BSN required, MSN preferred.
- Current CT licensure.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting to include at least 3 years of increasing nursing responsibility and leadership. (In lieu of above, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.)
- ANCC Nursing Executive Certification or other ANCC recognized Administration Certification preferred or obtained within 2 years of hire.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- Willingness to learn and implement a variety of teaching methodologies.

- Proven analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

- Effectively educate and motivate clinical staff at all levels.
- Manage time and pace of instruction to ensure the effectiveness of training sessions.
- Interact professionally with client community and be committed, helpful, responsive and effective in supporting organizational missions.

- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
